Money Match: British Pounds and Pence

During my year teaching in England, I created this resource to teach Year 2 students (students ages 6 and 7) to add by counting money.

Set of 36 Task Cards

Task Cards 1-13 are for middle ability students. Students learn to add coins up to two pounds.

Task Cards 13-24 are for lower ability students. Students learn to add coins up to ten pence.

Task Cards 25-36 are for higher ability students. Students learn to add coins up to four pounds.

Answer Key Included:

For Middle Ability: Cards 1-12

Cards 1 and 2 match up, Cards 3 and 4 match up, Cards 5 and 6 match up, Cards 7 and 8 match up, Cards 9 and 10 match up, Cards 11 and 12 match up.

For Lower Ability: Cards 13-24

Cards 13 and 14 match up, Cards 15 and 16 match up, Cards 17 and 18 match up, Cards 19 and 20 match up, Cards 21 match up and 22 match up, Cards 23 and 24 match up.

For Higher Ability: Cards 25-36

Cards 25 and 26 match up, Cards 27 and 28 match up, Cards 29 and 30 match up, Cards 31 and 32 match up, Cards 33 and 34 match up, Cards 35 and 36 match up.

Bonus: Worksheet on Adding Money

Task cards can be used in a variety of ways:

• In a center / centers

• In a small group / small groups

• Set up around the room for students to walk around and write their answers on the answer sheet / recording sheet

• Scavenger Hunt style. Students have to look around the classroom to find the cards and answer the questions

• In groups. Groups get a certain amount of time to answer the questions on the task cards and then pass the questions to the next group

• A game of Scoot

In the video, four dogs - two Golden Retrievers and two Alaskan Malamutes are loaded
into a truck on a ramp. The truck transports the dogs to a shelter where the dogs stay
until adopted to caring homes in the United States.
