Description
Keep your students engaged as they learn to identify the four types of sentences. The resource consists of three worksheets and an optional craftivity. Students will read several sentences and identify the sentence type. The four types of sentences featured on these worksheets include: declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences.
This resource includes two formats to choose from: a traditional worksheet format and a craftivity format. (The sentences are often the same, so you will choose ONE of these activities for your students to complete.)
THREE TRADITIONAL WORKSHEETS:
- Worksheets #1 and #2- Students read the sentence and add the missing punctuation. Then, they identify the type of sentence it is by writing the code on the clip art image and coloring the pencil the appropriate color. These worksheets feature 24 sentences.
- Worksheet #3- Students read the message on ten T-shirts. They write the type of sentence it is below each T-shirt.
PRINTABLE CRAFTIVITY VERSION:
- Students begin this activity by completing 5 worksheets that each have four T-shirt images. Students read the message on 20 T-shirts and use their pencil to identify whether the statement is declarative, imperative, interrogative, or exclamatory.
- Next, the students color and cut out the T-shirts. They sort them into four groups according to what type of sentence is written on each T-shirt. Finally, they glue them to a sheet of construction paper so that it looks like the T-shirts are hanging from a clothesline.
- The finished products make a unique bulletin board or fun school hallway display!
Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project. (An answer key is also included.)
