Types of Government (Terms) of Canada Play or Readers' Theatre

This Types of Government (Terms) of Canada Play or Readers’ Theatre: can serve as an introduction to our system of Canadian government. Or, if you teach in Ontario, it can serve as a quick overview of our political system before plunging into the new grade 5 Social Studies’ Inquiry-based research expectations.

This 6 character skit explores types and terms of government, especially Canada’s. The props are easily accessible and the humour will appeal to the students.

When I tested this out on my 5/6 class and they read through it the first time, I was heartened to hear laughter rippling around the room. You can copy this play for the whole class to work on in groups, or buy each of the 4 government of Canada plays and give each group a different play to practise and perform. This is a fun and engaging way to discuss our government. See if you don’t enjoy it, too!
