Description

What are "coursers"? What is a "peddler"? What are a few examples of similes, metaphors and personification? How does this poem represent the innocence of childhood? Need an awesome Christmas literature lesson using a classic Christmas poem? This lesson (part of "The Twelve Days of Christmas Literature" bundle) will get you and your students in the Christmas Spirit!

Written by Clement Moore on Christmas Eve in 1822, "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" was a special gift to Moore's nine children. His family loved it and his daughter later recited the poem for a friend who eventually sent it to the New York "Sentinel" where it was published the following Christmas. Within a few years, the poem was a huge hit, appearing in newspapers across the country. Eventually, the famous cartoonist Thomas Nast illustrated the poem with our most familiar images of an American Santa.

This two page lesson includes the student handout with poem, author bio and discussion questions AND the teacher handout with questions and answers.

I hope you enjoy! If you do, please check out "The Twelve Days of Christmas Literature" bundle.

Merry Christmas!
