What educators are saying

Very cute activity to send home or use in school. We are decorating our turkeys at home (so children have more art resources to bring their visions to life) and we will do the opinion writing part in school together. I can't wait to see all their disguised turkeys. Thanks!
Super fun and cute!! Students loved being creative and disguising their turkeys and didn't even complain about the writing process because it has a "fun" aspect to it.

Description

This turkey disguise project is a fun and engaging Thanksgiving activity for students to practice writing an opinion paragraph. This Thanksgiving writing activity can be done together in class, or sent home as homework or a project to be completed with parents/families. A digital Google Slides version is also included.

Students are given the following writing prompt: Thanksgiving is on the way, and the poor turkeys do not want to turn into a main course! In your opinion, what disguise should a turkey wear in order to escape turning into food on Thanksgiving?

Students brainstorm a disguise for their turkey, complete an outline/planning page and rough draft, edit/revise with a checklist, and write a final draft. They also do a Thanksgiving craft where they create the disguise on a paper turkey. If you prefer to make this project digital, students can digitally disguise a turkey by using digital drawing tools and inserting their own clipart/images.

This turkey disguise Thanksgiving writing activity & craft includes:

  • Teacher Guidelines
  • Homework/Project Instructions for parents and families (for craft only or both writing & craft)
