Description
Trig Identities
In this activity, students are provided with one of eight trig identities to verify. Students may work by themselves or with a partner to verify the identity.
If they need a hint, they can scan the hint QR Code. If they are ready to see a completed solution, they can scan the solution code.
(In this activity, students need to familiar with the basic ways to start an identity proof: get a common denominator, factor, change everything to sine and cosine, and the Pythagorean Trig Identities. I did not use any double angle formulas in this set of cards – stay tuned!)
I find that many students have difficulty knowing how to start an identity proof. So, the hint may be just what they need. When students are learning about identity proofs, I believe it will help them to have immediate feedback to see how the proof was completed.
In this activity, all of the hints are text. However, the solutions lead students to a specific place on the web which will show them the solutions. So, students DO need to be able to connect to the internet to complete this activity with the QR Codes.
I have also included a separate set of task cards without QR codes if you would prefer to use them that way.
I have also included an answer key for the teacher and an answer sheet for the students to use.
