What educators are saying

This was a good way for students to see just how to write a trig function. It was fun to think about different locations around the world.
My students were very engaged in this project. It was a great way to end our lessons on trig graphs and use them in a true application that they understand and can relate to.

Description

Sine and Cosine Trigonometry Graphing Performance Task

In this project/application task, students will learn that sinusoidal functions can be used to model fluctuations in sunlight throughout the year. Throughout the task, students will look at the total sunlight hours in a month for three different cities. Students will apply their knowledge of trigonometric graphs to create functions that best model a table. Students will be asked to explain their reasoning and thought process throughout the task.

An answer key is included.
