Triangular Trade Doodles & Task Card Game!
- PDF
Description
This activity was designed for ESL students. However, it is not strictly an ESL activity.
This activity is ideal for teaching US history/geography terms such as: continent, ocean, The Colonies, The Ivory Coast and so on...
To begin, provide each student with the handout containing the missing vocabulary. Next, divide the class (if 24 students) into groups of two. Then distribute the task cards, one card to each group. The task card they are holding will provide the answer to one of blank spaces on the map handout.
Now they will need to approach the other groups of students and ask, “Do you know where North America is? They are to keep asking the other groups for the information that will allow them to complete blank spaces on the handout. Once complete they are free to color these map images!
ESL STUDENTS - Before you ask students to complete the gap-fill activity, ask them to create a question for each blank space. For example:
Question - "What is the symbol in the northwestern corner of the map?"
Answer - "The symbol is called a compass rose."
CAUTION: Police the students so they don't just copy each-others cards. This is a speaking activity so the students are to be encouraged to speak!
