Description
All these resources go with this History For Humans video on the Progressive Era & Triangle Factory Fire!
This is a unique and powerful lesson to teach students how the Triangle Factory Fire helped to start the Progressive Era. It starts with the video above and comes with a follow-along interactive note sheet that could be completed digitally or with pen and paper. It also has a quick 7 question Google Form or PDF quiz to check for understanding. Lastly, it has an extension lesson that would take about 45 minutes that fosters historical thinking skills and gets students to put on their 'history-detective hats'. It starts with a secondary source to dive deeper into the fire and who could be held responsible: the workers, the owners, or the government. Students gather evidence and then divide up responsibility on a pie chart and justify their conclusions. Lastly, they develop their own reform laws that could prevent future tragedies. This will get your kids debating, discussing, and connecting deeply with the material and its relevance today!
The video is not just engaging but also teaches in a way to help struggling learners. It tells the amazing and tragic story of what happened the day of the fire, why it was such a preventable tragedy, and how the progressive movement arose out of the darkness of the Gilded Age and increased after the fire. They learn essential history content standards while connecting it with a powerful and memorable story- which is the mission of History For Humans. Please check out the video for your reference:
