Description

An extremely relevant and engaging project for students and so little work for you!

Works for anytime, but I've found it especially perfect for winding down the end of the school year or that tricky time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Students will be glued to their computers making the perfect dream vacation.

This project takes the student through selecting a travel destination, finding hotel and transportation information online, comparing reviews of hotels, activities and restaurants, budgeting, planning age-appropriate activities, and using several types of computer programs.

All the documents can be edited by you for customizing which components you want to include. If you don't have the software for SnagIt or Inspiration at your school, just drop those parts.

*NEW* A Google Slides fillable project guide made especially for middle school students! Works great for any student in need of guidance to create a quality project. Students are led through the project mostly independently! Hooray!
Find the link at the end of the rubric document. Copy into your Drive and rename to edit as needed.

Throughout the project, you will need to teach your students:
1. How to navigate a few travel websites. Expedia and TripAdvisor are my personal choices. Go through a few examples as a class of finding a popular restaurant and a bad restaurant and then let them find an example for practice-they love it!
2. How to use the super easy Excel spreadsheet (included). All the formulas are there and they just need to input prices for everything. To make it more difficult or to use this project to practice Excel, don't give them the spreadsheet and have them make their own with formulas.
3. If you wish to include the SnagIt component, teach the students how to use SnagIt by allowing them to make a funny character out of body parts from images they find on the Internet-they are so into doing that!
4. If you wish to include the Inspiration component, teach them how to use the software by having them make a timeline of their day so far with images and symbols.

This project has been so useful to me. I have it mapped as a unit plan and I usually spent about a month on it with my middle and high school FACS students. All you need are the 3 documents in the zipped file and computers/laptops for your students and you will be giving yourself an easy month while your students learn all sorts of new skills!

I hope you find this project useful!
