What educators are saying

I used this as a follow up when I was out and needed sub plans. It was a great review and something different for them to do!

Description

Students are asked to create a city based on directions on placing buildings in vertical, adjacent, supplementary, corresponding, alternate interior and exterior, same-side interior and exterior, and congruent/non-congruent linear pair angles.

What makes this project different than other similar projects is students use a set of two transversals and two parallel lines resulting in deeper understanding of the vocabulary. In addition, students have control over which corner the initial building is placed. This lends itself to 8 orientations of the town which I have provided.

Students can then help each other discover where buildings need to be placed by rethinking through the process, cutting down on the copying from a neighbor issue. By requiring students to get the buildings correct on a rough draft first, this project focuses on mastery.

One student remarked last year, "I learned more from this project than I did in the lessons in this chapter."

I tagged HSG-CO.C.9 CCSS, but this project does not contain any proofs.
