Tops and Bottoms- Journeys Lesson 12 Spelling and Language Quiz

Are you tired of the routine spelling tests that consist of a teacher calling out one word at a time and students are simply responsible for spelling each word correctly? With Common Core here now, teaching and assessing spelling in isolation is out of style! Here is an easy to use assessment tool that I've created for myself and my fellow grade level teachers. Students correct their spelling words, which are embedded in sentences that they rewrite correctly. There is also a section in which they circle the correct spelling of a word given four choices. Finally, they have a small sample of vocabulary strategy questions to answer which correlate with the weekly skills in Journeys Common Core for grade 3. I use this as our weekly spelling quiz on Fridays, but it could also be used for homework or in a language arts center!
