What educators are saying

This was a great option since we don't have the resources available to do a "real" tool impressions lab. I also liked how it combined tool impressions with fingerprints, and shoe and tire impressions. Great culminating activity after having covered all four topics!

Description

This 7 part, 12 page lab has tool mark matching, tire impressions, and shoe impressions. The students have to gather all of the evidence and decide which suspect is guilty.

PART I - Students measure fractures on a skull made by a hammer. Next, they measure hammers seized in search warrants to match to the fractures. There is also an impression made on a wooden table for students to match to the hammers.

PART II - Students measure and match 16 impressions made by screwdrivers and chisels to the tool marks from the crime scene.

PART III - Students match 9 tool mark striations with cut outs.

PART IV - Students match a tire impression from the crime scene with the tires from the suspects vehicles.

PART V - Students match 8 different tools with the impressions they make.

PART VI - Students match a shoe print from the crime scene with 16 shoes from the suspects.

PART VII - Students put it all together and decide which suspect will become their Prime Suspect. There are also conclusion questions.

Included is : 2 Versions of the Lab..
