Tone & Mood Analyzing Figurative & Connotative Meaning

Help students understand an author's use of diction (denotation vs connotation), imagery, figurative language, and syntax; to analyze the tone and mood of a text. Students will to determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the cumulative impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone. This multi-faceted lesson plan integrates listening skills, reading strategies, and writing skills, as students analyze each of these elements to determine the tone an mood of a variety of texts.
