Description

This is the third project I have students complete. The first two lessons, making a sideless cube and making a cookie cutter, both teach and reinforce basic Tinkercad skills, so I highly suggest you get and teach these lesson first. This lesson introduces a new workplane and a new shape. The spinning top can be printed and tested (directions for printing are not included).

Use this lesson to teach yourself how to make the spinning top first.  Then print this out (one or two slides per page–color is helpful but not required), staple, and make sure there are at least 1 copy per two students in your class available for students to access.

This lesson includes a video tutorial for students to access. The video is made for elementary students to work at their own pace. Some students will prefer to use the video while others will prefer the paper copy.  Either way, allowing students to choose how they will complete each project is much easier than you teaching direct instruction. This lesson includes a very simple rubric I use to keep track of student progress.

I do not recommend that you use this as a first lesson to Tinkercad. It assumes skills that were taught in my prior lessons.
