There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell

Summer is just around the corner and the Old Lady is headed to the beach!

This packet is a companion to the book. You will need to purchase the book separately.

This 39 page activity pack is perfect for speech or language. The activities included are perfect for speech and language intervention, literacy circles and whole group activities.

Retelling: Print, cut, and laminate. Cut out the old lady’s head.(page 3.) Cut out her mouth and attach it to an empty tissue box. Use the props on page 4 to feed the lady pieces of the story.

Ordinal Numbers: Print, cut, and laminate the color copy. Print and cut the included cards. Have students find matches and place the cards in sequential order. (Color and BW)

Comprehension Questions & Retelling Mat: Print, cut, and laminate. Place Velcro in each square (page 9). Cut up comprehension cards (page 10 & 11) and attach to page 9. (use either the two answer choices or three.) As students answer questions correctly, they remove the card to reveal parts of the picture. Once all the cards have been removed , students will use the retelling mat to retell the story.

Yes/No Questions: Print, cut, and laminate. (page 12) Students will draw a card and answer the question. Use with open-ended game board.

Matching: Print and give each student a copy of page 13. Students are to draw a line from what she ate to the reason she ate it.

Summer Bingo: Print, cut, and laminate. (page 14-16) These boards can be used for identifying vocabulary from the story, describing, identification by attributes, etc.

Rhyme: Print, cut, and laminate. Cut out the cards (page 17-18) and match rhyming words from the story.

Verb Tense: Print, cut, and laminate. Cut out each verb card (pages 20-22). Use the mat (page 19) to sort the cards into past, present and future tense. Have students formulate sentences with one or all verb tenses.

Counting Syllables: Print, cut, and laminate. (page 23-24) Students will draw a card and put their finger on the correct number of syllables in each word. Students can also use small clothespins.

Mini Book: (Page 25-27) Cut out the book and staple together. Cut out the pictures (page 27). Have students glue the pictures into their book to retell the story.

Roll & Color: Students will roll the die on page 36, then color the appropriate object on your paper on page 35. The first person to color in all of the objects is the winner.

Open-ended game board: Print, cut, and laminate. This can be used with any of the activities within this pack.
