Therapy Session Planner [for Student Interns]

Interns have been trained to follow specific therapy protocols that involve in-depth planning with subsequent review and discussion with a supervisor. In most school settings, time for review and discussion can be somewhat limited. This Therapy Session Planner will streamline the process and clearly outline plans/sessions for 1-4 students. In addition, this format enables your intern to review the session, results, and plan for ‘next steps’ [Implications].

It is recommended that interns thoroughly peruse all students’ documents to familiarize themselves with students’ backgrounds, parent/medical intake, evaluation reports, and Individualized Education Programs [for goals, objectives and specially designed instruction strategies]. This information will assist in determining the objectives, activities, and materials required for a therapy session.

It is further recommended that the intern use one copy of the Therapy Session Planner for each session regardless of the size of the group [maximum group of 4]. This will permit an overview of how each student within the session performed within their group. It is not unusual to make decisions about re-grouping based upon a student’s performance within a particular group.
