Description
Looking for a printable, ready-to-use Theme and Variations unit? This bundle of Theme and Variation lesson plans will help your students to gain an in-depth understanding of this form of music and give them collaborative, hands-on experiences to compose their own Theme and Variations! Some sections even have Google Slides included to help you with digital or online lesssons.
Theme and Variations Lesson One uses a picture book read-aloud, art, and a collaborative listening activity to introduce students to the theme and variations form. This lesson has also recently been updated for Distance Learning Music classes with a set of Google Slides you can share with your students.
With Lesson Two, students are given a melody map of a familiar song and, with their group, will change it in some way. Using an anchor chart students will compose two variations for the theme and perform for the class. An exit ticket and success criteria checklist are included to assess your students’ understanding of theme and variations.
Lesson Three has recorder students and beginning band students composing for their instruments and a performance rubric is included.
Theme and Variations Lesson One contains:
-A lesson plan (each section could take between 30-45 minutes)
- Boxes to help illustrate the concept of theme and variations
-Theme and Variations title for the box chart or as letters for a bulletin board display
-Theme & Variations word wall cards
- Elements of Music cards/handout
- A blank placemat (just insert a text box if you want to edit) and a placemat related to this lesson
- A blank checklist and a checklist that relates to this lesson
- A Google Slides version you can share with your students to help them explore this form of music
