The story of Thanksgiving lesson for ESL/ELL/ELD

Here is a Thanksgiving lesson for your English learners in middle and high school.

The focus of this presentation is reading comprehension and vocabulary in context. In addition, students will be collaborating with partners to summarize and writing individual paragraphs.

The lesson can be implemented on one day (for higher proficiency level students), but I have found that it works best when spread out over the course of several days.

• a slide with the Common Core Standards
• A slide with the objectives for the lesson
• a warm-up activity with the link to a Jamboard
• Vocabulary preview slides
• Text slides
• A slide with a graphic organizer for words in context
• slides where students can organize their summaries
• sentence starters for paragraph writing
• links to resources that were used and can be utilized for further discussion.
