The Vikings for Young Learners | Unit Study, Worksheets

Young learners set sail with the Vikings and complete up to eight engaging activities to learn and show what they know about captivating world of Vikings. Activities include a cut-and-paste Viking vocabulary foldable, drawing prompts for a lift-and-flap Viking longhouse, drawing prompts for a lift-and-flap burial scene for a heroic Viking warrior, an interactive map, cut-and-paste and multiple-choice comprehensive questions, unscramble-the-sentences and sentence-writing prompts, and coloring pages.

This resource provides early grammar stage students an exciting opportunity to learn about and create meaningful output for a civilization that is often reserved for study by older students. All activities are based on the “Vikings at Home” and “Vikings Abroad” sections of The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (or The Usborne Medieval World), which provide an excellent overview of this time period for young learners. Other high-quality nonfiction books that cover the basics of the Vikings may be used to complete the activities, but only the topics presented in the previously mentioned Usborne books are represented in this resource.

The activities in this resource primarily use simple cutting, pasting, matching, sorting, drawing, tracing, and coloring skills as a means for students to show what they know about the given topics. Please note that students should not be expected to complete the activities without guidance. Nearly all students will need help reading through the activities and following directions.
