Description

Do you teach ELLs? Do you have a lot of different english proficiencies in the same classroom? Do you have trouble differentiating to meet all of these students needs? LOOK NO FURTHER! These packets will challenge your top students with a grade level text and support your newcomers with images and academic sentence starters!

There are 3 levels of “The Veldt” packet that are differentiated to support all students needs.

Level 1 (Newcomers and Entering)- This packet has the lowest level english using only simple sentences structures and common vocabulary. The text is chunked into small 1-2 sentence sections. After reading each section students will draw a line to match it with a corresponding image. The images help the student to visualize the text and promote metacognitive practice of monitoring comprehension. Students are also provided with academic sentence starters in the evidence, analysis, central idea graphic organizer in the packet.
Level 2 (Emerging and Transitioning) The Level 2 packet has an adapted text that is shorter and simpler than the original text but still features some challenging vocabulary and grammatical structures. The packet includes images that go with each part that students will label in order to help them visualize the text and reinforce vocabulary.

Level 3 (Expanding and Commanding)- This packet contains a grade level text that is chunked into parts. Students who need additional support to access this text are provided summaries for each part to read prior to reading the text (Summaries can be taken from level 2 packet.) This aids students in comprehension of text and allows them to decipher complex grammatical structures and dialogue in the text.
