Description

This 2 page worksheet on E. A. Poe's short story has has 3 parts. Part 1 identifies 11 examples of figurative language Poe uses in his short story: parallel structure, personification, comparison, repetition, simile, irony, literary allusion, onomatopoeia, alliteration, metaphor, & cliché, and the students have to match the term to the definition. In Part 2 the students match the same 11 terms to easy examples of the figurative language demonstrated. Part 3 contains 30 direct quotations from the story, and the students have to identify the examples of figurative language in the quotations. Students will readily see Poe's favorite examples! A detailed, 2 page answer KEY is provided, making this lesson plan 4 pages in all.
