The Sunken Ship Scenario - Comprehension Skills Building - Native Mind
- PPTX
Description
We, at Native Mind, would like to introduce our spin on the classic sinking ship scenario. We have put in many hours into this pack and used this exercise ourselves in countless one-to-one lessons and also for group lessons. After a lot of trial and error and many hours of editing the world building element of this scenario, we would like to introduce this final product to other teachers, so that they can engage their students in building their comprehension skills.
As passengers sit in the sport bar, relax on the sundeck or take a swim in the pool, a loud and abrupt noise could be heard from the lower deck of the Floating Paradise. To make matters worse, the weather turns ugly with an out of the blue storm. A few passengers notice smoke billowing from the starboard side of the liner. Panic! Screaming! The crew rush to get people into lifeboats as the ship begins to tilt bow down. As almost everyone evacuates, a few passengers are left behind close to the only remaining lifeboat named The Sea Serpent. 24 characters and one dog must be saved from the sinking ship. Who would be saved? Who deserves to be saved? Which unique character will help the rest of the gang to survive on the infamous Bone Island? The choice is up to your students.
We truly believe that this exercise could prove to be a great tool to break the ice with new classes, as a fun end of term exercise or as a general whole lesson based exercise. You have everything needed in this pack for an entire lesson worth of content and more.
To make this exercise more fun for whole classes, we have introduced 7 possible end game scenarios to add a competitive edge if your class is split into groups.
We really hope you enjoy this exercise with your students as much as we have enjoyed it with ours. We look forward to your feedback and comments! Have fun!
