Description

The package includes the full score as well as a flute part. There is no separate vocal part included with this song.

Pauline Johnson was a Canadian poet whose mother was British and father was Chief of the 6 Nations Mohawk clan in Ontario. Her writings included both aspects of her ancestry and The Song My Paddle Sings has become one of her most well-known. It is a long poem which describes a canoe trip down a river, highlighting the sights and sounds along the way. It has been abridged and adapted for use in this composition.

This song is fairly large in scope and could be the centrepiece in a choral concert. It is most effective when performed as written but it can also be successfully sung in unison, with or without the flute. In the introduction and coda the flute line contains a "loon call", which is scored for soprano recorder but can also be played on the flute.

By purchasing this package teachers are entitled to make copies of the full score and all parts to suit their needs; an mp3 file of the accompaniment track is also available by contacting Marzipan Music directly.

Performance time is approximately 3' 05"
