Description
Review the units of measurements in space and scale diagrams with this set of creative doodle notes your students will love! The PDF file contains 4 doodle notes that you can annotate to suit your curriculum needs:
★ The Size of Space: With this note students will review the need for larger units of measurement and the following units will be defined for their use: kilometer, astronomical unit, light year and parsec.
★ Scaling Space: The teacher will review how to set a scale and how to convert the distances of the planets from the Sun down onto a line on this page. Students are provided all of the planets' distances from the Sun to convert them into cm (or inches, if desired) and mark these scaled-down distances of each planet on the line.
★ Solar System Sizes: Across two pages students will be provided with the real sizes of the 8 planets and the Sun. Students will determine their own scale and scale down each celestial body. Once they have the measurement, they'll need to determine a real-life object that could be used to represent each of celestial body. For example, a student could decide that the scale has Jupiter being represented by a basketball. After calculating the scaled down sizes the student would determine that the Sun would have to be as big as a golf cart with this scale!

Doodle notes provide an opportunity to look at relationships in multiple ways, while activating both sides of the brain through the creative doodling, annotating and coloring. Doodle, or, sketch notes have been shown to:
★ increases retention
★ activate the whole brain, the logical left side and the creative right side.
★ improve focus, people who doodle are able to recall more than those who daydream
★ calm students and reduces stress
★ add novelty to the class, which in turn helps to engage students
Doodle notes can be used as part of a lesson and as independent, group or class review. Collect all of the doodle notes to use as great test and exam review!
