Description

Immerse yourself in the world of three spunky bilingual kids who go on some wild, magical adventures in the animal kingdom! Rico, Diego, and Araceli Martinez are Mexican-American siblings living in Minnesota. When their neighbor Don Toño invites their family to join him in his virtual reality invention, the adventures in the world of animals begin! This colorful, illustrated chapter book will capture the imaginations of students. As the kids navigate situations like peer pressure and the temptation to steal, their experiences in real life and in the animal world will spark valuable conversations. Children and adults alike will be intrigued by this unique take on animals, culture, values, and imagination!

This series of ready-to-teach lesson plans is perfect to accompany a 2nd-5th grade classroom in their reading of The Secret Door. It includes story elements, Spanish vocabulary, graphic organizers, discussion questions, and writing prompts. It is aligned to Common Core and WIDA standards for 2nd-5th grade.

These lessons are created by the author/illustrator, Minda Gomez, a teacher of multilingual learners with 20 years of experience and a Master's in ESL.
