'The Sapphires' Film Study Workbook

This 43-page workbook is the only resource you will require for teaching the whole unit on "The Sapphires." It is chronological to the film and includes key quotes and scene questions (which link to the main themes in the film and help prepare students for the essay). There are four essay questions near the end of the workbook, with scaffolding for each essay question.

The booklet begins with a fun homework task - students must survey a family member that was alive during the 1960s to learn about the context of the time. This is followed by a double-spread character page.

As you progress through the film and the workbook, I have included relevant historical information on Freedom Ride, the Stolen Generation, the 1967 Referendum and the Civil Rights Movement.

As the scenes have no official scene name titles, I contacted the Executive Assistant & Office Coordinator of Goalpost Pictures, the production company of the film, and was given permission to name the scene titles myself.

This booklet was a labour of love and took weeks to complete. From the music song charts at the start of each scene to the layout and content - I hope you will enjoy teaching this unit! It's an enjoyable and humorous film - the tone is mostly celebratory.
