This was a great way to begin this novel unit. It got the students thinking about themselves and helped them to develop ideas surrounding survival before reading "The Road"
Description
This is a survival game based on the items that the Man and the Boy encounter in the novel The Road. I use this game to introduce the novel on the first day. Student are asked to first individually and then as a group rank 20 items (all found in the novel) in order of importance to their survival after a near-extinction level event.
This activity is very high engagement with the students and is an excellent springboard into the novel itself and talking about the issues the characters will face as they try to survive.
