Welcome to the Recess Matters-Playground Social Skills Curriculum! This curriculum is designed for 3-Weeks of 45- 60 minute lessons teaching students a variety of playground games, social skills, and play skills. Videos should be watched prior to going outside for practice.
Activities can be spread out over several smaller segments or weeks.
•What’s Included: Video Links to different, 3 Social Story Coloring Books, 2 Quizzes; 4 Signs to post on playground with rules for Tetherball, Foursquare, switch, and handball
•What’s Needed: Schoolyard Playground access, Reinforcement/Participation Prizes/Stickers, Bouncy Ball, Whistle, Chalk for making hop-scotch or four-square court, tetherball/court; Cones (optional), 2 Penny shirts (optional for Magic-Tag)
In this 3-week course students will learn:
(Week 1)
•How to line up
•Turn taking
•Personal Space
•Playground safety
•Playground rules and unwritten social rules
(Week 2)
•Initiating play
•Sharing and Taking Turns
•Being Responsible (cleaning up, listening to adults)
•Rules to a variety of typical Games
(Hand ball, tag, hop-scotch, four-square, tetherball)
(Week 3)
•Rules to an additional variety of typical Games/Play
(cooperative building, pretend play, swings, basketball, etc.)
•Sportsmanship
•Conflict Resolution
