The Real Business Project: Teacher Instructions, Overview, & Suggested Timeline

    Description

Are you interested in having your students start real businesses in your class? I love bringing entrepreneurship into my personal finance classroom as a 1-2 month project in our increasing income unit.

This bundle includes everything you need to organize and execute a successful student business project where the students will:

    • come up with a business idea that is exciting, easy/quick to start, simple, profitable, and free or cheap to start
    • make an abbreviated business plan (Business Snapshot) that will bring details to their plan
    • complete a founder's operating plan to outline how the business will run
    • conduct primary and secondary market research to learn about their target market
    • start selling to the public!
    • find a business mentor to offer guidance and support
    • make samples, build prototypes, or do trial runs
    • create effective advertisements
    • participate in business mastermind (brain trust) meetings to promote effective collaboration
    • organize and manage the finances of the business by tracking cashflow and conducting a breakeven analysis
    • showcase their work and a culminating event business fair

There is over 20 days worth of planned activities and resources ready for you to use.

    Included in this resource:

    • Idea Generation Activities - two activities for helping students to begin generating business ideas with the aim of solving problems for potential customers.
    • The Business Snapshot - a one-page summary of a business idea with prompts designed to get students considering the most important parts of starting their business.
    • Create an Effective Business Name & Logo - An activity to guide students through the process of picking a great business name and designing an effective logo.
    • The Founder Operating Agreement - An important document for a sole trader to outline how they plan to run the business and an essential agreement for partnerships to create and sign together before opening a business.
    • The Production Process - Create samples, protypes, and trial runs. This activity prompts students to create a detailed set of steps for making their products or doing their services, and requires evidence of what the business produces.
    • Business Mastermind Meetings - Your class is full of ideas and thoughts on how to improve the other businesses in the room. Use this resource to help you facilitate productive and supportive meetings amongst the student business owners.
    • Find a Business Mentor - Finding mentors and building a network are two super skills for any person to learn. This activity helps you guide them through the process of finding that mentor and communicating with them effectively.
    • Business Market Research - Let's learn more about our target market using a combination of primary and secondary market research.
    • Advertise Your Business - Create 3 advertisements to inform, persuade, and entertain your target market.
    • Business Cashflow and Breakeven Analysis - Dig into the basic finances of the business and start developing positive habits like tracking cashflow and determining the point at which a business becomes profitable.
    • The Business Fair - Get everything you need to plan and run and exciting and organized business fair where students can showcase their businesses and receive feedback from judges.
    • The Real Business Project: Teacher Instructions, Overview, and Suggested Timeline - A full breakdown of how you can run the project with a day-by-day schedule of which activities to do and in what order.

BEFORE YOU BUY WITH YOUR OWN MONEY: see if you can get a local business to sponsor your project and business fair, including the purchase of this resource! I am happy to help you with official invoices and receipts if needed. Just send me a message.
