This lesson packet contains a complete guided reading worksheet with 29 questions (with answer key), a crossword puzzle (with answer key) and wordsearch puzzle (with answer key) for The Raven, a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.
Key vocabulary words from the poem are used for the crossword and wordsearch puzzles. The word bank from the word search list are the same words used in the crossword puzzle. You will love this lesson set.
Great value
The 29 question worksheet should take about 60-70 minutes to complete while the crossword / wordsearch should take about 30-50 minutes (each) to complete (depending on the student).
As a public high school English teacher, the biggest challenge I have is getting students to read in class or at home. Put a book or short story in front of them, they'll look at it for a few seconds and start day dreaming...
Until I stumbled upon something magnificent. Teenagers like accomplishment. These worksheets ask questions while the reader reads. Every couple of sentences, there's another question in true or false, fill in the blank, define, multiple choice formats. As the student reads, boom, another question. They answer it and continue reading. Before you know it, they have finished reading the story and completed all questions for further lessons/discussions.
These worksheets are great for daily lessons, test/quiz grades, extra credit, homework, group work (in pairs of two), substitute teacher lessons, emergency lesson plans, great for ESOL or however you can imagine.
