What educators are saying

Great resource for my ASD class. They loved it. Great movie with solid resources meant a really engaged classroom.
I needed a fun activity for the end of the year, and I could not have been happier to find this resource for my favorite movie. The group project activities at the end were great for emphasizing literary elements taught throughout the year. I will continue to use this!

Description

GREAT END-OF-YEAR REVIEW ACTIVITY. This movie reviews short story terminology with sound educational value and provides a fun way to re-engage learners at the end of the school year, the start of the new year, or directly before or after holidays. (And let's face it: The Princess Bride, is one of the best and most beloved films of all time.)

GREAT STARTER TO A SHORT STORY UNIT (terms review)

This seven-page pdf document contains three different activities for a film study of The Princess Bride using terminology from most secondary short story units. The documents are attractively and humourously arranged with images to visually appeal to junior students. It is designed with eighth grade students in mind, but could be easily adapted for all secondary years, and even intermediate grades.

ACTIVITY ONE: While you watch. A six-question worksheet which keeps students accountable for their active viewing of the film. This one-page handout is largely comprehension based, designed to ensure your students do not tune out. The answer key is included.

ACTIVITY TWO: Applying Short Story Terminology to The Princess Bride. This is a two-page handout with thirteen short-answer questions which has students analyze the film using the following literary terms: conflict, protagonist, antagonist, stereotype, suspense, round characters, flat characters, static characters, dynamic characters, point of view, genre, atmosphere/mood, climax, and theme. The answer key is included.

ACTIVITY THREE: A Group Activity. By way of group activity review, students will create products that summarize their learning on the following literary terms: Freytag's Pyramid (a.k.a. plot diagram), including inciting incident, rising action, conflict, climax, falling action, conclusion, theme, character (static, dynamic, flat, and round).

GREAT START OR YEAR-END ACTIVITY. A movie eases students into back-to-school, and reviews terminology from last year with sound educational value for teachers! Also, a fun way to finish off a unit with a fun, but also sound, educational activity.
