What educators are saying

I actually do plan to use this for a sub just not as a program prep like intended. Great visuals and song choices!

Description

This set includes seven familiar USA patriotic songs, perfect for creating a themed unit and performance, celebrating patriotic holidays (Veteran's Day, Presidents' Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July), tying into social studies lessons, using as literacy fluency activities, or enriching musical exploration of meter, form, chords and melody. Printable or projectable song pages, instructions, teaching guidelines, and some programming suggestions are included.

Songs included in this collection:
America, a.k.a. My Country, ‘Tis of Thee
(chord accompaniment with lyrics and melody on the staff)
America the Beautiful (chords and melody)
Battle Hymn of the Republic (chords)
I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy (chords)
The Star-Spangled Banner (chords, simple and complex arrangements)
Yankee Doodle (chords and melody)
You’re a Grand Old Flag (chords).

All seven pieces are written in my Color-Chord-inated® format, and three (simpler melodies) are also notated on the staff with color-coded note heads. All verses of the patriotic ‘hymns’ have been included. These proven, practical formats facilitate success with Boomwhackers or bells, and work well for teachers and students with very little music experience as well as seasoned music teachers and older students. (Adult groups enjoy them too!) Note: If your bells, chimes or boom pipes aren’t color-coded, print out and tape the colored letters (included with this file, last page) to the instruments.

These songs may be electronically projected (great for keeping students focused and guiding discussions). They may also be color printed and enlarged if desired. Reading lyrics and notes builds fluency and eye tracking skills. Playing and singing the songs build eye-hand coordination, timing, musical skills, collaborative skills, and classroom community.
