The Outsiders, SE HINTON: Song of the Day, Dealing with Loss, Characterization

Johnny Cade just passed away. How will the Outsider gang react to this immense loss? After finishing CHAPTER NINE, pause for a memorable "Song of the Day" lesson. Students will listen to a modern-day song and then complete a handout to analyze characters. As a bonus activity, students will read an article about "dealing with the loss" and write a eulogy from the perspective of any outsider character and present their words in a heartfelt memorial service the following day. This activity can be done as a "ticket out the door" or assigned as homework. Just print and use!
