What educators are saying

This is a fabulous resource for my 7th RLA students! I am easily able to differentiate, so all my students are successful!

Description

Outsiders Project | Outsiders Presentation | Outsiders Group Project | Outsiders Character Analysis

Character analysis is an excellent skill for students to develop while reading The Outsiders. Not only are there a plethora of characters in the book, but there are multiple examples of different types of characters too (i.e. round, flat, dynamic, static). As we read through the book, we take a careful look at the characters through a variety of activities. These smaller activities help build to the end project – a detailed analysis of an assigned character from the novel. The final project asks students to justify why their character is the most significant character in the novel. This higher level thinking challenges the students, because they might not necessarily agree with their thesis statement, yet they have to figure out how to support their thesis regardless. The inclusion of musical, visual, and vocal elements allows for differentiation of student learning styles and skills.

You'll receive:
A detailed lesson plan with rationale and instructions, student handouts for replication, and a rubric to assist you in assessing student projects.
