Vocabulary Cards
Includes 32 cards with words from the story and their definitions. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is full of very rich vocabulary that you will most likely want to teach explicitly.
Prediction Worksheet
Students define the words "miraculous" and "journey" and use them in their own sentences. Then they work with a partner to predict what the book might be about based on the title.
Make a Connection Worksheet
Student make and write about a personal connection with the character of Abilene. They also write about times they felt specific emotions found in the book: afraid, lonely, sad, excited, love, happy.
Story Map Activity
Students track Edward's attitude and character trait changes chapter-by-chapter as the setting changes.
Vocabulary Worksheet
Includes 5 short excerpts from the book that each contain a target vocabulary word. Students use context clue to determine the word's meaning, select the correct definition, and write their own sentences using each word.
Character Traits Worksheets
Students identify traits of Edward, Abilene, and Pelligrina. They also interpret the actions of Edward and Pelligrina. A third worksheet is used to keep track of each new character Edward encounters. Students classify the characters according to how they feel about Edward (love him, hate him, indifferent), citing evidence to support it.
Compare and Contrast
This is a venn diagram worksheets that students use to compare Edward's character at the beginning of the story vs. the end.
