    Description

The Meeting of The Worlds - 5 critical thinking lessons to engage your students and develop their critical thinking skills + review and an assessment!

    Lessons Included:

The First Americans - “First Peoples” - Students view a free video from PBS and trace two theories regarding the migration of the first people through North and South America. This video is eye catching and compelling and helps to clearly lay out the evidence surrounding the two competing theories. Students pick a theory and use evidence to justify their argument.

Native American Cultural Areas - How were Native Americans dependent on their environment for their lives? Immerse your students in technology. Students build mapping, sourcing and summarizing skills by examining Khan Academy articles discussing the Native Americans of North America.

Native Americans Current Events and Modern Culture - This lesson has students investigate articles relating to modern Native Americans. They will examine two resources. The first discusses a current event relating to Native Americans and the second discusses modern Native American culture (particularly the lives of teenagers). There are articles of varying reading levels and linked Youtube videos, so teachers can differentiate as needed. Students analyze the stories and then engage in a class discussion about current Native American culture.

Exploration or Conquest (Illustrated Notes) - Why did Europeans begin to explore around the coast of Africa? Students will complete these engaging and critical thinking illustrated notes to examine the first years of exploration. Along with informing, these illustrated notes also ask students to think!

The Columbian Exchange - Who benefited from the Columbian Exchange? Students will cooperatively learn about the Columbian Exchange by using task cards to investigate the word origin of foods, animals, and diseases from around the world.

Word Wall the Native Americans and Exploration Vocabulary Practices - Help your students build and retain key vocabulary terms with a visually appealing word wall. This resource includes 34 word wall terms related to the Native Americans and Exploration, vocabulary review strategies, and a review puzzle to support your students' learning.

The Meeting of The Worlds - Review and Assessment - Assess your students' critical thinking skills with this skill based exam that focuses on the topics addressed in each of these lessons. Two different versions of the exam are included along with a review sheet to make sure that students are prepared.
