What educators are saying

This was an amazing resource for our end of the year book study! My students were super engaged and I didn't have to work too hard either to make sure we were assessing and learning strategically!

Description

NEWLY UPDATED MARCH 2024!

This 70-page workbook for Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief (book #1 in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series) includes 22 chapter-work sets, 4 vocab reviews, 9 literature exercises, a movie/book comparison guide, and a final assessment. This complete novel study is available in print and digital (with Google Slides), and has a MODIFIED version for lower-ability learners. Key included.

(For the PRINT ONLY version, click here.)

WORKBOOK CONTAINS:

  • COVER PAGE + TABLE OF CONTENTS + GREEK MYTHOLOGY GUIDE (5 pages)
  • CHAPTER WORK (44 pages): Each chapter (22) has two pages of work which includes 3 vocab terms from the reading, a fill-in-the-blank chapter summary, and 4-6 follow-up comprehension questions (short answer, T/F, and multiple choice).
  • VOCABULARY REVIEWS (7 pages): There are reviews for vocab usage skills after chapters 6, 12, 17, and 22. Activities include a crossword puzzle, a cryptogram puzzle solving mythology jokes, a choose-the-best-usage activity, and a correct vs incorrect usage activity. A link to a digital crossword puzzle is included in Google Slides for easy use.
  • LITERATURE SKILLS EXERCISES (10 pages): Literature skills covered include: character traits, foreshadowing, setting, plot, drawing conclusions, quote identification, cause + effect, sequencing, and a connecting-to-the-text bead design activity.
  • SUMMARY ACTIVITIES (7 pages): There's a movie vs book comparison guide at the end and a 50-item final test with character matching, multiple choice, and T/F questions.

The printable workbook is available as a PDF in black + white (most convenient) and in color. I've also converted the workbook into FULL COLOR Google Slides with text boxes and moveable pieces already in place. No prep for you! This is a convenient feature for digital learning or for those who prefer a paperless option. The slide with a crossword has a link to complete the puzzle online.

A MODIFIED version in print (b+w & color) and Google Slides is included for SPED and struggling learners. Adaptations include adding word banks under fill-in-the-blank chapter summaries (all 22), a modified vocab activity showing definitions, and subtle hints on several pages. Students who’d benefit from modified curriculum can complete this COMPATIBLE version along side peers completing the regular version. Adaptations are subtle, in small print, and aren't obviously different than the regular version.

NOTE: The zip file contains PDF documents for printing the workbook (4 versions + a key). It also includes two links that will prompt you to "make a copy" of Google Slides workbooks (reg + modified). Slides will download right to your Google Drive. Google account required for this feature.

For a quick & simple resource for The Lightning Thief that's NOT AN EXTENSIVE NOVEL STUDY, try comprehension guide fill-in-the-blank summaries on TRI-FOLD BOOKMARKS or GOOGLE SLIDES. Content from these resources (chapter summaries) are included in the workbook.
