The House of the Scorpion: Teacher's Cornell Notes ALL Chapters

This is the Teacher's Version I created for the entire novel The House of the Scorpion. My students took Cornell Notes as they read, which consist of short key points in the left hand column, longer reading notes in the right hand column, and a 4-5 sentence summary in the bottom section.
My students grumbled at first about being asked to write notes for each chapter, but when it came time for quizzes and paper writing, they were amazed at how much better prepared they were. I find that with a longer novel like this, it really helps for students to have some guided reading notes to help them keep track of the plot and character development.

Other products I have created to use with this book include six detailed quizzes that cover the entire novel and an introductory PowerPoint in which I present author, setting, and character background, brief quotes from each of the first five chapters, important vocabulary, major themes, and some essential questions to consider as we read. I also include cultural, historical, and/or scientific descriptions of terms like cloning, opium, chupacabras, laudanum, etc. Finally, there are real-world connections for issues like cloning and immigration, including movies!
