How to Use The Great Pencil Challenge:

Give students their fresh pencil. Set a date for a goal, set your check in dates, review the "vow" to take care of your pencils, and have a visual tracker of who is still in the competition. As students lose their pencils, they lose their pencil on The Great Pencil Challenge leader board. I like to do the check ins during my morning meeting. Usually, I set a goal for a month, and we check in every Friday. At the end of the challenge, students who still have their pencil get a prize.

Add a Challenge to the Great Pencil Challenge:

We start a new pencil challenge the following week, and everyone is then included again. I use a new color for the old victors who have moved onto the next "level", and the students who lost their pencil in the first round still use the same yellow pencils.
