What educators are saying

I loved this! My kids had a blast and I think I would only have loved for it to be only more complicated so they could've had a great time for even longer. Will definitely be buying more of these.
This was a great introduction to The Great Gatsby! I look forward to using this engaging activity every year!

    Description

Introduce The Great Gatsby in a fun and engaging way with this Roaring Twenties themed escape room! Students will learn about the Roaring 20s era by studying how WWI impacted society, Prohibition, Women's Liberation figures, and also decode a Secret Quote they can analyze for theme!

This bundle of Roaring Twenties activities has a Quality of Life reading and Vocabulary Match-Up, Icons & Influencers Biographies, a Prohibition-Era Song Close Reading activity, and a secret quote. You can present this fully digitally, in a hybrid learning classroom, or fully on paper. It has been designed to take 75 minutes, but you may want to plan more time based on the level of your students.

Included in this Roaring Twenties activities bundle:

⭐️The Great Gatsby Digital Escape Room - Introduction to the Roaring 20s

⭐️The Great Gatsby Escape Room - The Roaring 20s Introduction - Roaring Twenties

You and your students will LOVE learning about the Roaring 20s through solving this escape room. This escape room is PERFECT to use right before you introduce The Great Gatsby.

It can be used as stations or as table work for a single group. It is extremely reading heavy, but there are clues and puzzles to carry students through. Plus, this is an escape room combo, so in a hybrid setting, teachers could present the same game to both audiences.

Teaching your students about The Great Gatsby is an engaging way to help them learn about the Roaring 20s. Everything you need is included in this resource - a complete Teacher’s Guide (set-up, printing checklist, differentiation), extension activities, and an Answer Key!

Roaring Twenties activities and extras included:

    1. Four core tasks with instructions and clues
    1. Writing extensions (either analytical or personal responses)
    2. Station Cards
    3. "Oops" cards (for optional increased difficulty)
    4. Student Answer Sheets
    5. A full Teacher's Guide with set-up options, a printing checklist, and an Answer Key
    6. Two quiz variations (digital + paper)
    7. Additional discussion & research questions
    8. Full source list
    9. A poster for your door and "We Escaped!" and "We Tried!" cards

    A Word About Timing:

This resource has wide appeal and placement in curricula, so it's up to you how long to spend on the activity. With 9th graders in a regular class, I'd plan on 75 minutes. I've included some options for having your students pre-read the articles or splitting the activity over two or three days. There's a page in the Teacher's Guide detailing some options. There is a lot of reading in this Escape Room, so it really depends on what fits your classroom. As with any Escape Room activity, I recommend that you play through it on your own first before presenting it to your students.

    About Your Resource:

Your download is a .zip file containing a .pdf of the Teacher's Guide. This includes links to all digital elements, including editable rubrics for the extension activities. Feel free to email me at nouvelle.ela@gmail.com if you have any questions. :)

What teachers are saying about this Roaring 20s escape room…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “My students LOVED this activity. It got them moving and thinking and even grooving a little. For a challenge at the end, I encouraged my students to watch a beginning Charleston video and then learn the dance. This was a HUGE hit! I will definitely use this resource again!” - Kelly D.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This was such a great activity! I used it as an opening activity for our Gatsby unit in my dual-credit American Literature course. The students absolutely LOVED it! It took two full class periods, and I think the vocab was probably more time-consuming for them than I  expected, but they were definitely engaged!” - Annette W.
