Description
A unit that teaches and explores the pilgrims� journey to the New Land and how they celebrate their new life. All through the use of books you already have, websites, hands-on activities, crafts, a snack, printables and graphic organizers.
This is geared towards teaching your students about pilgrims-who they were and what they went through and the Indians that they met when they reached the New Land. It is geared toward using the Scholastic site but can also be used with the books you already have. There are some suggestions of books to use if you do not have computer access.
Lessons/activities include:
1. Schema map
2. Mayflower labeling
3. Voyage facts (before/after reading)
4. Craft: Suitcase-what you would pack for the trip
5. Compare/contrast daily life of Indian/Pilgrim children
6. Squanto organizer
7. Squanto snack
8. Craft: Indian Corn
9. The First Thanksgiving book
10. Compare/contrast first Thanksgiving/present day Thanksgiving
11. What's on your plate this Thanksgiving? draw/label
12. Sort foods: 1621/Both/Present day
13. Thanksgiving rules list
14. Craft: Turkey protest picture
15. Thankful list
16. 5 W's about the first Thanksgiving organizer
17. Food syllable sort handout
