Description

This non-fiction set of texts will grab everyone's attention. This package includes 3 texts written at the grade 2/3 level. The main text provides a simple history of ice cream loaded with math, with word work activities focusing on the long vowel patterns "ee/ea", beyond the text inferring comprehension questions and text feature activities. (Possible answers included) Plus there are 2 additional procedural texts: How to get Ice Cream and How to Make Ice Cream. A writing graphic organizer is provided for students to write a procedure on How to Throw an Ice Cream Party. A survey and graphing activity allows for this unit to cross over into math as students gather data on which flavour of ice cream their classmates would like best as they plan their party. The non-fiction text features in this unit are: Titles, headings, photographs, captions, and fact boxes. (Aligned with the Ontario Curriculum and Gr. 3 EQAO test)
