Description

In this Ted Talk presented by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the novelist warns students of “The Danger of a Single Story.” While completing this reflection worksheet, high school students realize the problems with single stories which lead to incomplete stereotypes of people of different cultures. This activity prompts lively and poignant class discussion among your students. Great for secondary ELA or Social Studies. Makes a great sub plan.

BONUS: "CELEBRATE DIVERSITY" poster

  • There are 10 quoted excerpts followed by reflection prompts.

  • Beautifully formatted, one graphic of Adichie

  • Clear font

  • Space for student responses.

  • This is a wonderful activity to start any discussion of diversity, discrimination, stereotyping, or embracing American culture.

  • I use it as an introduction to Othello and have also used it before studying A Raisin in the Sun.

A buyer commented, "My kids loved this speech and these questions helped my students really dig deep into the message."

Another commented, "I loved it so much that I purchased five licenses for the new teachers to the school. It is so important that we share this story with our students. Hopefully, it will clear up stereotypes that are out there and have to be debunked! I love it!"
