    TEACHING RESOURCES

357 pages of Lesson Plans include:

    • 43 pages of Fluency and Phonemic Awareness Activities
    • 79 pages of CVC Decodable Stories - Each leveled story contains letters that are learned in a sequential, cumulative, and science-based structure.
    • 37 pages of Teaching Tools
    • 6 pages of Teaching Instructions

All students, regardless of age, should start at Level One to ensure a solid foundation. Begin when a student has mastered most of the letter sounds and names and can blend three-letter words.

    • Level One starts with learning about blends and digraphs. We use syllable types and syllable division to teach long and short vowel sounds. Students will learn about words ending with double letters using The Floss Rule when to begin a word with the letter |c-| or |k-|, and how to spell the ending sound of /-k/. Level One introduces basic grammar principles and a few common prefixes and suffixes.
    • Level Two mainly deals with Anglo-Saxon spelling rules and some exceptions to the rules. We introduce vowel teams and R-controlled words. Level Two ends with the meanings of prefixes, suffixes, and base words and learning how to add suffixes using the Doubling Rule.
    • Level Three examines Anglo-Saxon, Latin, and French influences that affect our understanding and spelling of English words. Lessons include adding suffixes to words ending with -e and -y.
    • Level Four primarily teaches Latin and French origins and their effect on English words' spellings, sounds, and syllable divisions. Many affixes and roots are studied at the end of level four.
    • Level Five encompasses rare Anglo-Saxon, Latin, French, and Greek spellings of sounds. Greek word parts are the focus at the end of level five.

How to organize and reuse lessons:

    • Keep lessons in sheet protectors secured in a binder.
    • Attach cards with two-way tape to the back of the corresponding lesson for easy and quick retrieval.
    • Remove the day's lesson, and allow the student to underline the concept, vowel sounds, or syllable division with a fine-point dry-erase marker before reading.
    • Write the student's name at the top of a long strip of cardstock, punch it with three holes, and place it in the binder to easily find their next lesson.

    PHONOGRAM CARD DECK:

    • Keywords on each card aid the memory of the sound.
    • The deck contains 44 pictured letters A through Z plus ch, sh, ph, th, wh, ck, zz, ff, ll, ss, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, magic e, plural s, and vowel y.
    • 139 phonogram cards without images such as all vowel teams, the Bossy R, and other consonant digraphs and trigraphs.
    • Use phonogram drill cards to learn letters and sounds, review concepts, practice blending phonograms into nonsense words, and strengthen fluency with quick drills.
    • Size: 2.75” x 4.25”

    FROG POND BLENDING GAME

Give your students a fun and easy way to blend phonograms into words or nonwords.

The Frog Pond Blending Game engages students at every step of the game.

    Students will:

    • Choose the lettered card tiles
    • Point to each letter
    • Sound out by jumping or slithering their pointer at each letterbox
    • Blend using different strategies - onset or rime first
    • Move their froggy game piece on the game board by jumping forward and sounding out the word they read - one move per phoneme.
    • Practice skills such as counting, following rules, and taking turns.
    • Achieve a goal (set by you).
    • Enjoy learning and feel successful!

    WHICH IS IT?GAME:

    • Students love to practice spelling choices in a fun and engaging way. Practice one or more concepts per game.
    • Nineteen-word lists include these spelling choices to practice: Floss or not, c-/k-, -ck/-k/-ke, a-e/ai, ai/ay, er/ir/ur, o-e/oa/-ow, -tch/-ch, -y/-ey, -ed/-ct, -dge/-ge, oi/-oy, au/-aw, -tion/-sion, ea/e (short e), ea/ee ( long e), oo/ou, -se/-ze
    • One to four players
    • Simple rules and instructions areincluded.
    • Get as many points as possible within the time you set.
    • Set a goal with the number of points needed to receive a reward, then keep track of the students' points received during each game. Write the points earned and the concepts practiced on the score sheet provided.
    • The student chooses the correct spelling by pressing the "button" on the concept card deck.
    • Note: For added excitement, use a buzzer sound for pushing the correct "button." Try Quizsound (phone app).
    • It would be best if you had one die or spinner to play.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE ORIGINS:

    • The Story of the English Language, depicted by children in outfits of the time and their nationality, illustrates why our language is so complex.
    • English Language Beginnings shows a map of the world and the chronological sequence of foreign influences on the English language. Children will gain insights into how long ago and how far our language has traveled.
    • The Layers of English Language illustrates our most frequently used words to the most complex ones while identifying their origins and characteristics.
    • The set includes seven 8.5" x 11" mini-posters.

    VOWEL TEAM STORYBOARDS - DOWNLOAD:

    • 63 pages total.
    • Six flow charts show spelling strategies for the long vowel sounds of a, e, I, o, and u, and the short vowel sound of e.
    • 13 Stories featuring the vowel teams: ai, ey (they), ea (steak), ei, ee, -ey (key), ie, -ie, ea (health), -igh, oa, -oe, ui
