What educators are saying

Loved this resource for an end of the year project with my Algebra 1 class. They loved building the catapults, and having a rubric and outline for the paper helped them a lot.
This project truly answered the question "when will I ever use this." My students enjoyed the activity.

Description

This project prompts students to build and work with catapults in order to model a real world parabola. This is a great project to facilitate in any Algebra 1 classroom because it will offer a tangible connection to quadratic functions.

This product contains information relating to four main components of the project:

1. Build a catapult.
2. Measure and record data in order to write the equation for the parabola modeled by the catapult.
3. Write an essay about the math, science, and history behind catapults.
4. Create a poster that displays the process.

Materials in this product are highly detailed. This includes:

1. Project Description
2. Poster Expectations
3. Data Collection Worksheet
4. Essay Template
5. Grading Rubric

This task works well as a group project. I recommend offering two class periods for collaborative work time and then giving students one week to independently complete the written and visual components of this project.
