Description

This simple project is meant as a companion to the book "The Carpenter's Gift," by David Rubel and to encourage humanitarianism.

Among other things, a common theme throughout the book is the spirit of giving (especially to those in need) during the holiday season - this project encourages students to seek this in their own lives.

I love to ask my students to think beyond themselves & this project not only encourages students to look into their own family tradition for the holidays, but also take a glimpse into how they can be compassionate toward others.

In this project, students will:

Decorate their "Home for the Holidays," and work to convey what their family traditions are.

Fill "snap shots," either with photos of their family helping others or of pictures they draw portraying how their family can show compassion to others.

Provide a writing piece to accompany their "snap shots." This writing should have the title of their family name - for example: "The Smith's Gift" and should detail how their family can, has or will show compassion during the holiday season.

Happy Holidays!
