    Description

This bundle is for the amazing novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas!

    Here is what is included!

The Complete Teaching Unit This is both printable and Google Ready!

This is a fifty-two page teaching unit for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It includes ready-made, standards-based handouts for each chapter. There are also four tests included, one for chapters 1-6, one for chapters 7-10, one for chapters 11-14, and a final test. This teaching unit requires students to return to the text, to analyze literary devices and the author’s craft, and to infer and draw conclusions from what they have read. You will not simply find comprehension questions and vocabulary work in this unit. It is Common-Core based and rich in standards for reading and writing. This unit can be used as whole-class instruction or as an independent novel study. Either way, all of the work is done for you, and you can rest assure that you will cover multiple standards as you read this profound and memorable story.

Please note - SOME of the activities in this unit may repeat in the other included products.

    The Interactive Notebook Unit

This is a 50 page interactive notebook novel unit for the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. The activities in this interactive notebook unit have been kid-tested and found to be engaging and effective in teaching literary skills without stealing the joy of reading The Boy in Striped Pajamas.

To make the unit more "teacher-friendly", we have included photos showing how to create more “complicated” pages. The activities are Common Core related.

    Chapter Eight Readers' Theater

This mini unit is designed to accompany John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It contains a readers’ theater script for chapter eight, directions for students to write their own script for other chapters, plus a handout for chapter eight, two writing activities (one poem and one essay) a novel test, chapter analysis chart, discussion questions for after chapter twenty, plus three other post reading activities!

    Novel vs. Movie

After reading the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, show your students the movie based on this book. The movie can be ordered on Amazon. It is 94 minutes long.

There are several differences between the novel and movie. As your students view the movie, allow them to jot down similarities and differences using the “Movie Watching Notes” handout included in this packet. Students can also complete the Venn diagram page (also included).

After watching the movie, students can take the test. You may want to allow them the option of looking back in the novel if needed. The test has 15 multiple choice questions, 3 short answer questions, and 2 discussion questions. An answer key is provided.

    Test on the Movie ONLY

This packet includes a note-taking guide for students to use while viewing the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

There is a KWL chart for students to complete prior to watching the movie. While students watch the movie, they can use the provided Venn diagram to compare and contrast Bruno and Shmuel. There is also a list of discussion questions students can answer after the movie. A test is included (24 multiple choice questions, 4 short answer questions as well as 2 discussion questions) with the answer key.

This test is solely on the movie and not the novel. It is simply a test to use to make sure that students paid attention while watching the movie.
