Description
This ACTIVITY PACK includes the perfect combination of literary and informational text activities and assessments for success in increasing reading achievement and comprehension.
You will find a rhyming readers theater script, two informational text articles with annotation activities for building background knowledge, standards based re-usable graphic organizers, and the original short story.
These activities were the subject of doctoral research and are research-proven to be effective in increasing fluency, engagement, and success in reading comprehension while meeting national and state standards for English Language Arts.
Think of it this way:
FIRST:
Tell your students they’ll be reading a rhyming play.
They’ll each interact with one another today.
Divide your class into groups to start.
Students then select a part.
After reading together, choose a few volunteers,
To perform it for everyone’s eyes and ears.
Fluency improves, and students master the plot.
Now you can discuss theme and whatnot.
SECOND:
Now that they’ve mastered the rhyming text,
Reading the original short story is next.
THIRD:
They’ve got it down; they are proceeding.
Now, introduce informational reading.
LAST:
These graphic organizers are for you to assess,
All of the knowledge they now possess!
