This is such a beautiful resource and idea. I make "all about me" books at the beginning of the year and this is a fantastic addition to them!

Description

The Best Part of Me, by Wendy Ewald, is a wonderful read aloud to teach both socio-emotional and writing skills. Students learn about self-appreciation and diversity, while listening to writing from students their own age. It is a great mentor text to use when teaching descriptive writing and similes/metaphors.

In my classroom, this is my students' favorite first week of school activity. This is the first piece of writing that goes up on our bulletin board, and they are always so proud to see themselves represented in this way.

This resource includes:

- Ready to print differentiated sheets for students to complete their writing based on their needs

- An easy to complete powerpoint for you to create your own photo displays in MINUTES

- A Google Slides student version, where the students can create their own writing and take their own photos

Here are a few different ways teachers have used this resource:

"A great product to use at the start of the new school year and as part of a unit on personal identity. The students really enjoyed thinking about their own physical attributes and appreciating all the wonderful ways in which they are helpful. A super resource for positive self-image in tweens. Thank you!" - 5th and 6th grade teacher

"I love this book and writing activity! It is a wonderful Back To School activity and bulletin board display. This is a great way to start talking and building student relationships. Also, students can build their self-esteem by looking within themselves to identify positive attributes. Students' work was displayed in the hallway and it received many beautiful compliments." - 4th grade teacher

"I used this as a "get to know you" writing piece. I also wanted the Ss to get used to using Google Slides. They were motivated to write about themselves especially since they knew they were going to add a digital picture too!" - 2nd and 3rd grade teacher

"We needed a filler activity between writing units so that our reading and writing would be aligned and this was perfect! They came out AMAZING and the kids love them so much!" - 4th grade teacher
